HUM, WHAT WILL THEY EAT THEN???
Iceland announced that they can no longer afford their Big Mac…
McDonald’s is closing all 3 of their burger joints in the capital Reykjavik.
”The economic situation has just made it too expensive for us,” Magnus Ogmundsson, the managing director of Lyst Hr., McDonald’s franchise holder in Iceland, told AP.
As all the goods required for its restaurants are from Germany, the costs have doubled over the past year because of the fall in the krona currency and high taxes on imported goods, making it impossible for the company to raise prices further and remain competitive.
A Big Mac in Reykjavik retails for 650 krona ($5.29) but needed to increase to 780 krona ($6.36) to remain viable.
That would have made the Icelandic version of the burger the most expensive in the world.
So, it’s adieu!
(A world premiere???)
